Driving up the gravel driveway to my grandmother Ella May Rae’s house, light filtered through the tunnel of trees to reveal what had become an island of tranquility - an entrance to this magical and mystical little paradise my grandparents and family created with Ella living there for over 60 years. The timelessness of Ella’s world was enlivened by her spirit, and by years of living in one place. “I’ve got nothing to brag about, it’s ordinary everyday things, I’ve just raised five kids,” she said. “It was real country,” she recalled with a sparkle. “We had 5 acres. We had ducks, chickens, sheep, and Buttercup, a cow. We had a farm, that’s what it was. They are good memories.”
